Drew Struzan - Composition Study
These week we took a look at Drew Struzan, known for many classic and incredible movie posters. We specifically looked at his poster composition, here's a mood board of some of his posters:
And I chose to recreate his ET poster:

In recreating the piece, I started with some linework:

Cannon High Poly First Pass - Metal
This week we needed to complete the high poly pass of one of the pieces of the cannon, specifically either the metal or the wood. I went with the metal here, and weathered it, along with adding some cracks, and welding along some seams.

Frank Frazetta - Value Study
This week we studied Frank Frazetta, and value studies using his drawings. We were to choose one of his linework pieces, and develop light values and shading for the piece.

Creating A Level in Unreal Engine
In Tech Art, in order to get accustomed to source control through Perforce, and Unreal Engine, we were to set up a scene and push the assets and level to Perforce.
I set up my scene using a series of asset packs, including a scene we were given called the Bumping Pub, Advanced Village, Ancient Treasures, Dynamic Grass System, Good Sky, and Chameleon.
Here are some shots from the scene:
And finally, we were required to use at least one asset from the bumping pub. The treasure found at the end of the dock is... Toast!

Cannon Week 2 - UVs and Increasing Resolution
For our 3D Modeling assignment this week, we were to UV our cannon, all on the same UV set, and increase the resolution of the mesh. After doing this, we were to import it into ZBrush, just to show we can get it there.
Here I have my UVs:

Brian Froud Homework
For this assignment, we were to create a mood board based on Brian Froud's work, shown here:

After that, we were to choose one, and create silhouettes of nine original characters, based on one from Brian Froud. I used this as my base:

And these were my silhouettes, along with the silhouette of this guy in the top left.

Cannon Proxy Scene
One of our first assignments was to export the Unreal Man to take into Maya, and use him as a scale for the rest of a scene. We were to build a proxy, lower res model of a cannon, along with ground plane and foliage around it.
I went ahead and had fun with my Unreal Man, and built a slice of a ship deck, along with a growing potted orange tree - can't let Unreal Man get Scurvy out there.
Then we were to import the models back into Unreal to get accustomed to the application, and render some high res shots. Here are a few of mine:
Along with a shot of my wireframe from Maya:
And a Marmoset wireframe turntable:
